It is also culture, mindset, and vision. It is the ability to redesign the way of working to make it more efficient, agile, and connected. Above all, it is a key to allowing craftsmanship to engage with the contemporary world, without losing its uniqueness.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Italian_SMEs_numbers_potential_and_delays\"><\/span><span style=\"color: #993300;\">Italian SMEs: numbers, potential, and delays<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>SMEs form the backbone of Italy\u2019s productive system. Companies with fewer than 250 employees (excluding micro-enterprises) number around 211,000 and employ over 78% of the private sector workforce. This central role, however, is accompanied by structural delays in digital transformation, especially when compared to major European countries.<\/p>\n<p>According to the DESI (Digital Economy and Society Index) published by the European Commission, 60.7% of Italian SMEs have reached at least a basic level of digital intensity, a figure slightly above the EU average of 57.7%.
