The Setup of HOMO FABER 2024 Curated by Luca Guadagnino and Nicolò Rosmarini
The setup of the new edition of HOMO FABER 2024, the prestigious international high craftsmanship event organized by the Michelangelo Foundation, has been entrusted to film director Luca Guadagnino and architect Nicolò Rosmarini. The exhibition will be held at the Cini Foundation on the island of San Giorgio from September 1 to 30, titled “The Journey of Life”.
It aims to narrate the key stages of human existence—from birth to the afterlife—through a unique interpretation involving handcrafted objects. The exhibition will unfold across ten thematic stages, each focusing on a different moment of life.
Alberto Cavalli, Director of the Michelangelo Foundation, emphasized that the exhibition will feature spectacular setups, original works, and live demonstrations marking each of the ten chapters of HOMO FABER. The show will include a curated selection of unique pieces created by over 300 master artisans from 50 countries, showcasing an extraordinary diversity of technical expertise and innovation.
THE EXHIBITION JOURNEY IN DETAIL
The journey begins in Borges’ Labyrinth, titled “Sense of Destiny.” From there, visitors will enter the Cloister of the Cypresses, representing the place of birth, where a giant Venice-inspired Game of the Goose will enchant visitors, animated by twenty embroiderers from around the world.
The Palladian Refectory, in tribute to its historical use as a dining hall, will celebrate conviviality and the joy of life. In the Photography Room, visitors will explore the worlds of cinema and the transmission of knowledge.
The Garden will reflect the theme of affection, with the White Room dedicated to courtship, and the Tapestry Room illustrating the colors of love. The Timber Roof Pavilion will offer visitors the flavors of a tea room, evoking the thrill of travel and discovery. The former Printing House, currently undergoing restoration, will come to life for the first time with an installation dedicated to the mysteries of nature.
Finally, the Gandini Pool will embody the realm of dreams, leading to the journey’s end: in the former Nautical Room, visitors will encounter a final dialogue between artisans, artists, and designers, culminating in the last breath of life—and then beyond.
BEYOND THE ISLAND
The event will not be limited to the island of San Giorgio. Thanks to the “HOMO FABER in Città” program, it will extend into the wider city of Venice. This initiative aims to engage local artisans and makers throughout the Venetian lagoon.
Visitors will be able to discover seventy selected artisan workshops, chosen through a dedicated open call, each with extraordinary stories of creativity, talent, and life choices, many of which are still unknown even to locals.
The program will also include a rich calendar of events, such as workshops, tasting sessions exploring new culinary horizons, and the “Maestro d’Arte e Mestiere” award, promoted by the Cologni Foundation under the high patronage of the President of the Italian Republic.
